  35.     Anyone knows how to convert a .XMI file into .MID format.  I have 
  36. like 20 of them and they sound excellent.  Right now, I can only play 
  37. them in windows with Media Player.  Is there a converter program, 
  38. composer (for editing) or a DOS player?

  76.     Do you mean internally, as in the four-pin connect on the GUS, or
  77. externally via a patch cord?
  78.     If it's interally, it's probably only luck that the wiring that came with
  79. the CD-ROM fits the GUS's four-pin (I know mine didn't).  The connections
  80. would most likely be off.   I *believe* that the GUS's are "left, ground,
  81. ground, right".
  82.     Externally, it may be a bad cord--RCA's are easy to pull the wires out
  83. of...

  108. Another thing to consider is that Patch Manager and the new Windows
  109. driver look at different sections of ultrasnd.ini.  What they see must
  110. agree or else your custom patches won't load.  I _think_ the new driver
  111. looks at the [... Bank 0] sections while Patch Man looks at the 
  112. [Melodic Patches] and [Drum Patches] sections.  Whatever the case is,
  113. the whole custom-patching situation is just a mess right now.  Gravis/
  114. Forte are working on ways to radically improve it, though.

  129. You might have mismatching SBOS versions.  Since SBOS comes in several
  130. files (sbosdrv.exe/.com, loadsbos.exe, and sboslib.sbs), you must
  131. make sure that all are from the same version of SBOS.  Delete all these
  132. files from your \ultrasnd and \ultrasnd\sbos directories and then
  133. install the new SBOS in gus0039.zip (yes, 0039).

  144. You can't use the AIL drivers with KQ6 as the game uses a different
  145. audio system (Sierra does not use the Miles drivers).  You might want
  146. to use Mega-Em with the game instead.

  168. I wish Gravis would be a little more active in promoting their excelent
  169. soundcards in the UK. Yesterday I looked through all of the PC games
  170. magazines latest issues and none of them contained Ultrasound adverts, but
  171. what was worse, only a very tiny minoroty of reviews of games which support
  172. the gravis directly actualy mention the fact.

  174. For example, in one of the magazines there is a checkbox at the end of each
  175. review deatailing the hardware requirements - they never fail to mention
  176. when a game has SB / Adlib support, but they do not mention gravis support
  177. ever! Even with games like Doom that are virtualy unplayable without one!

  180. The ultrasound deserves to be the top soundcard in the UK - Unfortunately
  181. if the UK games magazine readers persist in thinking that nothing supports
  182. the gravis, it will become a legendary failure.

  218. I have found that the OS/2 MMPM drivers recently uploaded to
  219. ftp.cdrom.com basically require the MMPM CSD patch to be installed
  220. prior to the driver installation. The CSD can also be found on
  221. ftp.cdrom.com as mmpmcs.dsk in the ibm directory.

  236. I just got Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Kings Quest Five, both on
  237. CD-ROM.  Kings Quest works fine with GUS.  However, Indy keeps jamming on me. 
  238. The entire screen freezes and the sound freezes on the last note played and my
  239. keyboard also freezes.  On the disk comes demos for Indy, DOTT, and Sam and
  240. Max.  THe Indy and DOTT demos frequently jam and Sam and Max doesn't work at
  241. all.  I know the disk works because it worked on another machine (not another
  242. GUS though).  I also still only have the original 256k memory.  Could this be a
  243. problem?  Any assistance?

  324. Hi.  I'm a novice GUS user -- just play games! -- and I've been noticing a
  325. certain patch which irritates me in games such as Sam&Max, SC2000, World of
  326. Xeen (all thru Megaem).

  328. The sound sounds like a snare drum or something, but to me, it sounds more
  329. like static.  I have no idea how to monkey around with replacing patches,
  330. etc., so I ask any of you out there for advice.  (BTW, is it just me, or was
  331. the GUS server down for the past couple of days?)

  349. OK, I finally got around to manually editing my autoexec.bat and 
  350. config.sys files to recognize the GUS.  However, megaem and ultramid will 
  351. now work even though my  variables are correct (I think).

  353. Everything is the same as before I erased my autoexec and config, except 
  354. that I had to change the hex address of the card (because my new HD came 
  355. without a jumper and I needed to cannibalize one.  anyway....)
  356.  
  357. The card initializes fine, and recognizes that there is a card there.  
  358. Megaem and Ultramid say that my card doesn't match the environment 
  359. variables (like I said the only thing that is different is the hex 
  360. address, but I had to change that cuz I removed a jumper).  Anyway...

  362.     1)  What did I do wrong?

  364.     2)  Where the heck is gus0041?  I wouldn't mind just downloading 
  365. it so I can reinstall (even though I'm fully updated).  I looked on epas 
  366. and orst and wuarchive, etc. to no avail.  gus0041.zip was nowhere to be

  381. I have just connected my CDROM drive to my GUS, using the internal
  382. 4-pin connector. Now, it seems that this input is mixed into the
  383. GUS output, without any control over it. That is, when I run the
  384. Gravis Mixer, clicking "Mute Line In" does not mute the CD-in.
  385. Also, the volume control has no effect on the sound from the CD.
  386. Is it really the case that this input is always mixed into the
  387. output, no matter what and without gain control?

  404. Recently I heard some disturbing noises when trying to
  405. record on my GUS (connected a CD and used GoldWave to
  406. record). To test it out, I disconnected all inputs
  407. from the GUS and started to record, at 8 bit/44.1 Khz
  408. STEREO.
  409.  
  410. The result was quite disturbing: there is constant static noise
  411. on one stereo channel only. The other channel is silent (well,
  412. as silent as the regular hiss). The phenomenon is totally
  413. consistent. I made sure nothing is connected to the input lines.
  414.  
  415. Is my GUS broken? Is there something I can do to correct this
  416. problem? (It's a new card - still on warranty). H/W version is 2.4.

  437. Just upgraded from the disk version of Star Trek the 25th Anniversary to
  438. the Enhanced CD-ROM version.  The old version worked fine, but I can't
  439. get the sound-FX and digitized speech in the CD-ROM version to work
  440. (only the background music works).  I called the tech support at
  441. Interplay and they said they would look into it (and suggested
  442. contacting Gravis for help).

  444. I'm running a 386-40DX, 20 MB RAM, 1 MB GUS, QEMM 7.03 memory manager.
